This attractively illustrated book is an accessible way for young minds to find the resources for to deal with the challenges of everyday life. Each of the two-page sections contain a brief statement of fact or story and actions points that arise out of it. The themes covered are: Motivation – Wisdom – Battles – Courage – Self-Care – Relationships and Determination.
This is not an overtly Christian book – it offers more of a ‘power of positive thinking’ approach, but references to Scripture are scattered here and there in the book.
Like some of Rob Parsons’ Sixty Minute books, this has Christian faith close to the surface without it being in your face. For example, in a section titled A Higher Power, we have the story about the explorer Ernest Shackleton’s colleague who had the curious feeling that there was another person with them on their journey.
Bear Grylls adds:
“When our ability to cope is at its limit, people have often met the Divine. Just because we cannot see something doesn’t mean it’s not there. I guess that’s what faith ultimately is. A trust in the unseen. It has always been a quiet strength to me. That fourth man, holding my rope.”
An easy but helpful read for 8-12 year olds.
