HOPE Community to launch in north west

Former community worker and pastor Jonny Gios launches Hope Community this month, aiming to help churches across the North West.

Jonny has gained considerable experience since leaving his home town of Stockport some 16 years ago. He’s now an adopted Cumbrian and his heart is to serve the local church in Cumbria and Lancashire.

After the devastation of Storm Desmond, Jonny was one of key people in the town of Kendal to help respond to the aftermath. Following his work in flood recovery he has been to Downing Street and won the Spirit of Cumbria award, and has been invited to a Buckingham Palace garden party this year.

Jonny’s experience comes from working on the Raffles Estate in Carlisle, where he worked as a pastor for a church and charity for nine years. He later moved to Kendal, developing the community work from Sandylands Methodist Church, which was nominated in 2014 for a social action award.

The launch of Hope Community takes place on Saturday 18 February (2pm) at Capernwray Hall, a bible college based in Carnforth. Free tickets are available at https://hope1419.eventbrite.co.uk.

Guest speaker at the launch will be Hope executive director Roy Crowne, who says: “I’m thrilled to see HOPE Community launched with Jonny Gios as the Community Networker. His experience of community engagement, pastorally and around youth ministry stands him in good stead for this position and some of the innovative initiatives that Jonny has done have really established the church at the heart of its community”.

It is expected that there will be over 150 people in attendance for the launch. The vision of the charity is to see the Church develop as a catalyst for change and a force for good.

Jonny explained: “We’re expectant and excited to serve local churches in our region to see how we can help them engage better in their communities. There are many needs, but with the skills and volunteers the church has it can be an amazing resource to not only change people’s lives but also see transformed communities too. Please do come along to our launch to find out more, we’d love to see you.”
